US Capitol Building Engagement Session in Washington D.C. | Deanna + Grant

One of my favorite things about being a DC engagement photographer is getting to do sessions at some of our country’s most iconic buildings, that happen to be in our back yard! Truly such a gift! Deanna and Grant live minutes from the U.S. Capitol Building and chose to do their engagement session right there on Capitol Hill, to capture this season of their life (they’re originally from New York!). We opted for a sunrise session, which meant we had the place all to ourselves, and it allowed us to get some gorgeous wide shots without tourists cluttering the back ground! (This is a best kept secret among DC photographers – do the session at sunrise, and you avoid the crowds!)

We began at the Supreme Court Building, ventured to the steps of the Library of Congress, before ending at the Capitol Building. These two couldn’t have picked a more perfect location, we had white marble reflecting clean light from every angle! But my favorite part of the morning, by far, was getting to hang out with Deanna and Grant – if you know them, you know they are SO fun! They met in film school in New York, and after being friends for years, they finally started dating – something that came to no surprise to their friends, who had been hoping this would happen all along. There is something beautiful about being friends long before you start dating, and it’s clear that to this day, these two are still best friends!

Deanna and Grant, thank you for being totally open to my crazy ideas and staying positive even on what turned out to be a surprisingly cold morning for April! I had so much fun with you two!
