Lucy & Taylor’s classic wedding at The Mill at Fine Creek was truly beautiful, complete with festive nods to the season and all kinds of fun December wedding ideas! After a year and a half of planning, I couldn’t wait to celebrate them and see their winter wedding ideas come to life!
They chose to tie the knot at St. Bridget Catholic Church, and held their Reception at The Mill at Fine Creek – one of the best Richmond wedding venues, in my opinion! I love the Mill at Fine Creek for its unique portrait locations, from historic ruins to moss covered rock by the creek (not to mention, their in house catering that is amazing!), and it made for a gorgeous backdrop to their day. As a DC wedding photographer, I knew the weather could go any direction in December, but we were gifted with a golden day of perfect weather! Zero rain, zero snow, just a comfortable afternoon (we actually got slightly warm in all of our layers!), and it was confirmation of an all around beautiful day!
There were so many thoughtful details that went into the day, honoring loved ones and making the day unique to them. Lucy wore her mother’s engagement ring as her “Something Borrowed,” and asked her brother to stand beside her for their wedding as her Man of Honor. (Fun fact – Lucy’s family are family friends of ours, and Grant her brother went to school with my sister in Prague! Such a small world, it was so fun to see them!) My second favorite detail to the day was Lucy’s veil, which she designed by hand, including the beaded detailing along the edge! It fell beautifully against her winter wedding dress, and was the perfect full length for portraits. (Pro tip – Cathedral length veils are best! If the veil is too short, we’re limited on the portraits we can take. We had so much fun with Lucy’s!) Not to mention, Lucy and Taylor fully embraced the timing of their day being close to the holidays and the day was filled with evergreen, pops of holly, and touches of gold accents. Their favors for guests were personalized ornaments, which was such a fun idea! Even Lucy’s chic flats matched the evergreen bridesmaid dresses. No detail was left forgotten (Lucy is a planner, girl after my own heart!) and it was such a fun last wedding to our year! Keep scrolling to see our favorites!
