This weekend marked one month since Liz and Kevin’s gorgeous American Homestead wedding! As a DC wedding photographer it has been so much fun to get to see venues in other states, with views drastically different from our own, and the American Homestead is easily a new favorite! The Yakima wedding venue is complete with mountain views, a river streaming through, and the perfect setup for everything to be in one place. When we drove up to do our pre-wedding scoping, we couldn’t get over the breathtaking views, both on the drive to the venue, and once we arrived. Just two Northern Virginia wedding photographers soaking up Washington’s views and fresh air, sign us up for all the PNW mountain weddings!
I first connected with Liz through one of our other couples, Alex and Jace, who had a Fontaine Estates Winery wedding over the summer. She was helping them plan their day, while also planning her own! It’s such a picture of her heart, wholeheartedly willing to serve and continually putting others first even amid the craziness of her own wedding planning! We were able to do their Yakima engagement session while in Yakima for Alex and Jace’s wedding, and it was the perfect way to meet before the wedding, particularly because we live so far away!
I knew with Liz being a wedding coordinator for years that the day is going to be extra thought through and beautiful, and Liz had so many sweet ideas! The day began with bridesmaids in their getting ready robes, and Liz thought to get robes for each of the flower girls too, so they could be a part of the fun. We had to include them in a few robe shots! Their getaway car was the actual Mustang that her mom drove in high school, and it made for such fun portraits – those turned out to be my favorites of the day! For Reception table decor, in lieu of vases and flowers, each table had their own cake. Talk about fun centerpieces! And my favorite idea of all – at the end of the Father Daughter dance, ALL fathers and daughters were invited on to the dance floor to join Liz and her dad. It was so sweet to see daughters from infants to adults dancing with their fathers, I was getting teary eyed behind the camera!
Liz and Kevin deserve a special shoutout for how they handled unexpected rain during their ceremony – along with everyone else who lovingly supported their day and got a little wet along the way! It was cloudy in the morning, which was perfect for portraits, but just as the ceremony started, we began to feel the drops. Rather than panic and move everything inside in a frenzy, Liz and Kevin remained calm and decided to move forward with exchanging their vows outside against the mountain views. The portraits turned out FAR better than they would have had we moved inside – both for the natural light, and the views! I was so impressed and glad they dared to do it!
WHAT a day, enjoy my favorites below! Liz and Kevin, we feel so honored to have been a part of this with you guys! You have officially convinced us to make Kauai a priority!!
Sweet flower girls in their robes!
Liz wore her grandmother’s wedding rings, such a meaningful “something borrowed.”
All the dads dancing with their daughters! So sweet!
